Unit 8
In all the new mental and relaxation techniques we have practiced over the last 8 weeks I think my favorite two are loving kindness and meditation. I really like these two because they are easy to integrate into my lifestyle. Loving kindness I usually do in the morning, focusing on others instead of myself and starting the day without a lot of negative thoughts really helps me enjoy my day. One way I was able to focus on this early in my day is because I have started making list of things to do for the day the night before so I can concentrate on my early morning mental exercise without all the what have I got to today chatter in my mind. Meditation I love to do after work, I go to my room take a long hot shower, and sit in my room for 20 minutes just focusing on my breathing a releasing the stress of the long day that I just put in at the hospital. This helps me to relax, not to bring the stress of the day home to my family, and just clear my mind. I guess these two times of the day would be called me time, its the time I take for myself to connect with who I am and my higher power.

Donna,
ReplyDeleteI admire the fact that you are able to do the Loving Kindness practice and integrate it into your life. I really wish that this one had worked for me. I cannot focus on others when cannot release my own negativity first. I hold too many grudges and anger toward certain people to be able to feel love and kindness toward everyone. Unfortunately, I am guarded and very untrusting of other people now and it makes it almost impossible for this practice to work for me. I envy the openness and heart you have for yourself that allows this love and kindness toward others. I know that it eases your mind and heart and relieves your stress so that you can enjoy your day. Kudos to you.

Donna,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have a great routine and that these practices are becoming a part of your daily life. I like how you said that you take the time to meditate so that it relaxes you and therefore you don't take the stress from work home with you. This is another great benefit to meditation. I think that meditation and other exercises are key to being happy and not stressed. Our minds need a break as much as our bodies do. Great points!

I like the idea of making lists. I am definitely going to try this. Perhaps by getting things out of your head and on paper - it will clear away the cobwebs and chatter. Great help!

Donna,
ReplyDeleteOne of the things that I love about mediation is that it is one of those things that you can do anywhere. I am not good at lists, though it does seem like a good way to make sure that you take time to incorporate these exercises into your daily schedule. Though I love mediation, I find it hard to sit in silence for long periods without my mind wondering. The guide lead exercises work best for me. I like the fact that this class offered a variety of exercises that seem to work for all of us. Though one is better than the other is, they are all helpful.

I could not agree with you more about these two practices. I have found so much relaxation with the meditation especially! I am glad this class has opened my mind to these practices. Thanks for sharing.
